Hongqi
FAW holds the rights to the "Red Flag" name. The first Hongqi (Red
Flag) cars were introduced in 1958, recalling both the Soviet
representative limousines and contemporary American styling. These cars
were exclusively used by party leaders.
A decade later the same story was repeated when the American Ford company ventured into China: the Lincoln Town Car was reshaped to become the "Century Star" and the "Flagship".
Of all models 23626 units were completed in 2003.

In the late 1980s Volkswagen appeared in China and teamed up with
FAW. As a result of this tie-up a new Hongqi series was introduced,
which was based on Audi technology. A decade later the same story was repeated when the American Ford company ventured into China: the Lincoln Town Car was reshaped to become the "Century Star" and the "Flagship".
