Dallara was founded by its current president, Gian Paolo Dallara, who, after working for Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and De Tomaso, wanted to continue pursuing his dream of working in the world of racing cars and so in the town of his birth, Varano de Melegari (Parma), established "Dallara Automobili da Competizione" in 1972.
The core competencies that characterize Dallara are design using carbon fiber composite materials, aerodynamics by means of wind tunnel and CFD, vehicle dynamics through simulations and testing, and fast and flexible production of high quality prototypes.
Every weekend approximately 300 Dallara cars run on tracks around the world and in various formulas: the company is in fact present in all Formula 3 championships, is the sole supplier of cars in the IndyCar championship, Indy Lights, GP2, GP3, World Series 3.5 by Renault and Super Formula.
Dallara also builds cars for instructional leagues such as the Formulino, for the Formula E championship and participates in the USCC.
In recent years the engineering activities have expanded, both for racing cars and for high-performance road cars. The consultancy services offered by Dallara are used by some of the most important international carmakers, including: Alfa Romeo, Audi, Bugatti, Ferrari, KTM, Lamborghini, Maserati and many others that cannot be mentioned due to confidentiality agreements.
From 2007, Gian Paolo Dallara was joined by Andrea Pontremoli, who, after leaving his role as president and CEO of IBM Italy, assumed the position of Dallara CEO with the aim of cultivating innovative strategies for the development of the factory in Parma.
In 2012, the opening of an engineering centre in Indianapolis: Dallara IndyCar Factory. It is a center for research and development, driven by the concept of "Edutainment", that stimulate the passion for technology and innovation, creating a fun and exciting experience.
