1980 Porsche 911SC Weissach Edition
408 produced.
I don't think there is a Porsche out there I don't like, but every once in a while we run into rare examples that makes us want to add it to our wish list.
We lost touch during the next few years and in 2013 crossed paths again at the Miracle Mile Car show. There we learned he had put it up for auction at the Auctions America event on March 24th in Fort lauderdale, so we went to check it out. The owner told us he had a reserve, and we were originally planning on registering to bid on the car, but once we recalled his original asking price, we suspected that the car would not sell, and realized that our $100 registration fee would simply be wasted.
Sure enough, it went on the block mid-day on Saturday but only got up to $32k and did not sell. Later we spotted the car in the "Still For Sale" area for $37,500.
While only 408 Weissach limited edition models were produced and delivered the United States, some enthusiasts dismiss this as just a decorative option. While this is true, it still remains quite unique, since the interior was full leather in Doric Grey with burgundy piping and had red/burgundy carpet and beige leather seats. This car in particular, is the only one known to exist without a sunroof.
It was built in 1980 to honor the Porsche Motorsport team working in Weissach Germany. Half were painted Metallic Black, the other half in Platinum Metallic (shown here).
Special 15 Fuch wheels were painted Platinum Metallic and fitted with Pirelli CN30 Tires. The Weissach coupes also came standard with a flexible chin on the front air dam and whale tail rear spoiler.
The Porsche Weissach Special edition (option M439) was an immdeiate collector’s car when released in 1980. All of the 911 SC Weissach's were coupes, had a curb weight of 2,756 pounds, had normally aspirated engines, and were fitted with the 903 body. They were sold at a price of $32,000, a high price at the time.
It produced 172 horsepower, and a top speed of 139 mph and a 0-60 in just 7 seconds.

We ran into this car at one of the many events we frequent back in
2010 at the Miracle Mile Car show in Coral Gables, Florida. After
getting to know the owner well, we followed it religiously at every show
it was entered hoping that one day we would see a For Sale sign on it.
We even asked the owner if he would consider parting with it. One day he
said he would, but the number he wanted was a bit on the high side, and
after confirming our suspicions with several Porsche enthusiasts,
online sources and local shops who know the car, the $40 to $45k was
simply too much, despite the high quality condition it was in.We lost touch during the next few years and in 2013 crossed paths again at the Miracle Mile Car show.
