1988 Porsche 924
Porsche 924. The basic 924 was initially launched in 1976 although
special editions like the Martini (1977) and other variants such as the
924 turbo (1978), 924S (1986/7) and Le Mans (1988) were also built. It
was the first Porsche to use a water cooled front mounted engine.
Interestingly, the 924 was originally commissioned by Volkswagen
(co-developed by Porsche). However, Volkswagen cancelled the project so
Porsche bought the design and sold it under their own badge thus also
making it the first "affordable" Porsche. Production of the 924 ceased
in 1988. (available at Art Of Motoring).
