Freightliner
Founded by Leland James.
Leland James, who was President of Consolidated Freightways in
the late 1930's, wanted a lighter transport truck with some aluminum
components but truck manufacturers nixed the idea as not being
practical.
James dedcided to manufacture the truck himself and, by 1942, was manufacturing under the name Freightliner Corporation, a company that would become North America's leading heavy-duty vehicle manufacturer. (source: Classy Truck)
