1986 IAD Alien
International Automotive Design
International Automotive Design was founded in Britain in the 1970s, but its real glory days did not arrive until the 1980s. Eventually, it opened offices in California, Detroit, Tokyo, Paris, Frankfurt and Turin.
After a few innocuous design studies, IAD burst on to the world scene with "an attempt to 'out-Countach' the Countach", as the designer of the Alien described his work at the 1986 Turin show. As an exercise in attracting international attention to the young British design company, the Alien was incredibly successful, crowds surrounded the car all through the show.
