1955 Volkswagen Beetle Karmann Kabriolett
Just when I thought I had seen every possible version of a Volkswagen
Beetle, I stumbled on this gorgeous 1955 Volkswagen Beetle Karmann
Kabriolett.
The pictures do not do justice to this car. I can't believe it was
this nice even when new. Even the turn signals on this car will take
your breath away.
Volkswagen, not like many auto manufactueres, regularly made runing changes in design during the model year.
1955 represented a year where several significant changes wehere made "mid year" in transition to the 1956 models.
The semaphores (flag style turn signals) were replaced with the more traditional style turn signals, the bumper over-rides as provided on this car were added to the front and the rear bumpers, and twin tail pipe exhaust replaced the single tail pipe as provided on this model.
As you can see, this car has only one of the three major changes, the addition the addition of bumper over-rides, which partially block the tail lights. This was corrected in 1956 with larger tail lights moved up ion the fender.
This vehicle was built at the Karmann factory in Osnabruck, Germany.
Technical information.
• Chasis number: 1-0799163
• Original engine number: 0965518
• Engine: 1192cc, 30hp, flat four, air-cooled, overhead valves
• Transaxle: Crashbox 4-speed
• Turn Signals: Semaphores (flags)
